Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. In
this class, we will be learning about the human brain and how it helps us perceive and
understand the world around us as well as topics such as behavioral genetics, cognitive and
social development, perception, learning, memory, decision-making, language, consciousness,
emotions, motivation, psychological disorders, social identity, and interpersonal interactions.
Next semester we will be focusing on the social science of Sociology by exploring
human society and social behaviors. Studying the social sciences allows learners to better
understand WHY people, including themselves, act the way they do, as well as helpful life skills
like identifying and managing stress and emotions. We will identify patterns in social
relationships and discover how these patterns shape and impact our own lives, as well as how
these patterns might change over time.
