Superintendent s Office

Interim Superintendent, Karen Trusler:

I am honored to be the Interim Superintendent of the Highland community. This community is well
known for its support and dedication for every student. Working in partnership, I know that we can
continue to build that excellence for each student to succeed.

My background in education includes two years as an interim superintendent for the Weld RE-5J
School District in Johnstown-Milliken and nine years as a superintendent in Weld RE4 Windsor as
well as being a principal for five years in this district. The foundation for my core beliefs has been as a
twenty-year classroom teacher. My focus will always be on what is best for students to excel at high
levels in order to succeed as productive citizens themselves. After all, our children may only make up
about 20% of our population, but they are100% of our future.

Although I grew up in Littleton, Colorado, Weld County has been my home for all of my adult life. My
husband, Keith, and I have been married for the last forty-seven years. We raised a son, who now
lives happily ever after with his family in Nashville. We enjoy those precious times with family that are
usually in Nashville, on a beach, or at our cabin in Red Feather Lakes. My priorities in life are faith,
family, and friends.

Please know that I am excited to have this opportunity to work with you. You are always welcome to
visit with me to talk about our students, schools and building that excellence for each and every child.
