Ms. Camila C.
I joined the team at Highland Elementary in January of 2021. I have most recently taught Spanish for the past few years in Colorado, and prior to that, spent some time in Nicaragua, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic, each involving time with children in school and community settings. I always enjoyed the study of my first language, English, and went on to become fluent and literate in Spanish as a young adult. I have a bachelor's degree in the Spanish language, and I later got my teaching endorsement from UNC. I enjoy trying to learn some Haitian Creole and ASL. I cannot imagine a job that is more entertaining and fulfilling than teaching. My daughter, dogs, and other family members are who I spend time with outside of school. Currently in the ELD program, students are practicing their English skills with some routines and games that I bring to the table, and they are showing me what they had done in the past to practice. I also enjoy showing them that Spanish is a good thing too (we don't have other home languages represented)! I love reading and am a big believer in instilling a love of reading and stories from an early age.
