Ms. Ali Higgins
My name is Ali Higgins and I am the new art teacher at Highland Elementary School. This is my second year teaching. I graduated from UNC in Greeley in the Spring of 2020. I am very excited to continue exploring and creating art together this year! Art is going to look a bit different for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade this year. We are switching over to a TAB curriculum. TAB stands for Teaching for Artistic Behavior and it is designed to give students a lot of choice and freedom. Students will be expected to explore new media and ideas but they may not be completing traditional art assignments. Instead they will bring home concepts they want to explore, techniques they want to continue to work with, practice work they've made, and a few larger scale projects. My goal in a TAB classroom is to provide students an opportunity to create artwork that is personal and meaningful to them on an individual level. In Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade projects will look similar to last year. As a class we will be learning and working with one skill or technique for each project. We will be exploring a lot of different art media and growing in our craftsmanship! I am looking forward to growing together and seeing how students will continue to explore art this year!
